Accessibility

How we build this site to work for everyone, what the Display panel does, and how to tell us when something does not work.

Diese Seite ist noch nicht übersetzt und wird deshalb auf Englisch angezeigt.

We want this site to work for everyone, whatever device, settings or assistive technology you use. Our target is level AA of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2.

How the site is built

  • Pages use proper headings and landmarks, so screen readers and the “Page structure” view can jump between sections.
  • Everything works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline. The first Tab press offers a link that skips straight to the content.
  • Text contrast is measured, not guessed. Body text is above 18 to 1 in both light and dark themes, and the faintest text is above 5.7 to 1.
  • Colour never carries meaning on its own. Buy and sell are labelled, and their colours also differ in lightness for colour-blind readers.
  • The site follows your system settings for dark mode, reduced motion and higher contrast.
  • Text can be enlarged to 200% without losing content.
  • Anything that moves can be paused, and nothing flashes.
  • Each language version is marked as such, so screen readers pronounce it correctly.

The Display panel

The person icon in the header opens the Display panel. Its settings are saved in your browser only (see browser storage).

  • Theme: system, light, dark, or e-ink (black on white, with no motion or shadows, for e-paper screens and for anyone who prefers it).
  • Text size and line height.
  • Readable font: switches to Atkinson Hyperlegible Next, a typeface designed by the Braille Institute for readers with low vision.
  • More contrast, grayscale and hide images.
  • Pause animations.
  • Reading mask: dims the page above and below the line you are reading.
  • Strong focus outline.
  • Page structure: a list of the page’s headings and regions to jump to.

The panel adjusts how the page looks. It does not replace accessible code. If something only works when a panel setting is on, that is a bug, and we want to hear about it.

Known limitations

The order book on the home page is an animated illustration. Screen readers get a one-sentence description instead of the changing numbers, and it can be paused with its own button or by the “Pause animations” setting.
